The Portuguese water dog is stunningly smart.
Originated from the Algarve region of Portugal, the breed expanded to all around Portugal’s coast, where they were taught to herd fish into fishermen’s nets, retrieve lost tackle or broken nets, and act as couriers from ship to ship, or ship to shore.
The Traditional Lion Cut. Why? Because the lion cut diminished the initial shock of cold water when jumping from boats, as well as providing warmth to the vitals. The hindquarters were left shaved to allow easier movement of the back legs and the powerful tail.
And without further ado……We would like to introduce our Portie, Romeo! Born and raised in Edmonton, Canada by Baywood Dogs, Romeo has made his way back to his Motherland. He wanted to say Woof to you all.
We frequent Gale Beach and Old Town Albufeira. Romeo has made a few appearances onboard our Tours……Woof Woof!
